Crete is a wonderful island where many Swedes go for vacation, so did we. We took the first spring week possible and ended up with a Langley trip. We got a good hotel but with a pool whose water was more cold than the warter in Swedish lakes during the spring.

I did not have too much a time for birding down there, but I did get a few hours of free time. One canyon trip where I saw some Rock thrushes, one mountain trip where I saw nothing, a trip to the beaches and farms near the ocean, a trip to Lake Agios. The latter a wonderful man made lake where water fowls gather.

At lake Agios we spotted many rare birds, from a Swedes perspective. For example Little Crake and Little Bittern.

The short trip down to the fields near the northern shore and found several Red-footed Flacons and a Red headed Shrike.

Next time I will make sure that I plan better as I missed many very good locations for birds.
